It's almost may

I sat next to a mouth breather in chem today. after a while i noticed and it was really annoying. and gross.

and

kiwi's smell like our backyard. not the typical inside of kiwi smell but if you smell the outside before they are ripe. i guess they smell like kiwi plants. which smells a lot like our backyard.

and

i may be celebrating too early but i think i found a topic for my paper.
its about the idea of the frontier and how that is a part of america and american ideal. the idea of taming the frontier and yet it is full of endless possibilities. however the literal idea of frontier is gone, we have tamed the american wilderness coast to coast. so the new frontier is not land but knowledge. scientific breakthroughs. maybe its all the science fairs but for some reason that idea sticks in my mind. the frontier of science, of knowledge. and it is similar because with new knowledge we are still taming the earth, taming the elements. by pushing the frontier we are discovering new things, and bettering life for ourselves. and now the boundries really are limitless. as far as we know there is no west coast that will end the search. its also the idea of new. the idea that every person has the possibility to discover something no one has seen before, go where no man has gone before. ooh thats a good one, tie star trek into it. our longing for something new and different. once the difference was physical space, new places. now it is mostly mental new ideas, new concepts, new items, new things.
so we'll see how that goes over at my meeting with my TA tomorrow. :)

quotes

"Humans are always in a rush to embrace that which is novel"

"dreaming is giving yourself a soul"

Title

Yesterday was a good day. This is Emily and Sasha, two friends from my floor. We hung out outside and wandered around in the arboretum. I just loved the pic. We saw lots of ducks. and some turtles.
the weather got nice just for friday and now it is all rainy and glum again. although it should be looking up for the rest of the week. then people can finally start wearing the summer clothes we all bought over spring break.
but at the moment I'm stuck naming Transition Metal Complexes, like dicyanobis(ethylenediamine)cadmium(II) and pentaamminechlorocobalt(III) sulfate. Sadly this is no joke.

Herbal Medicine IS real

The readings in my Concepts in Herbal Medicine class are confirming my hope that many of our current medicines are derived from plants. Yet somewhere in our comsumer culture many of us have been taugh to believe that we can only be cured by medicines from the drugstore. I really think people should be taught more about the healing power of different plants.
Now I will go do hw and continue my rant another time.

PLUS!!
We saw this in my American Studies class the other day. There was a guest lecturer who was talking about anti-americanism in the americas, specifically south and central. The Three Caballeros was Disney's way of trying to bring the Americas together and show unity. Donald, the US, Parrot, Brazil, and Rooster, mexico. I was so stoked to see the video, its bee probably about 13 or more years.
sorry the quality is so bad, it's the only one i could find :)

Driving and Dreams

I went and took my written drivers test yesterday, and I passed. So now I have my permit and I can legally drive in a car with anyone over the age of 18(which is pretty much everyone I know, hehehe). But I think my driving will be limited to Santa Cruz.

Last night or this morning I had a long involved dream. We were turning people into zombies by tricking them into eating these little orange pellets. We didnt know how they would work on people. On animals I think that they eventually wore off. As zombies the people would do whatever we said. So then we sent them somewhere I guess. Then i went to change my clothes in Steven's tent. And we realized the people hadnt gotten to the destination because on thier route they had run into a party so they got distracted and started partying. thats all I remember, it was pretty cool.
And i learned the other day that a guy from my floor had a dream that he ate his own poo. I didnt know people had poo eating dreams...

American Studies 30

I'm gonna go nap now.

Yesterday, I woke up at 6:30 cuz I had to go to the bathroom. Then around 8:28 after my first alarm went off I dreamt that my second alarm went off and I turned it off. So I woke up a realized that my second alarm had NOT went off yet.
So this morning I also woke up at 6:30 for no reason.
then this morning, I dreamt that my first alarm went off and i turned it off. I was half asleep waiting for my second alarm to go off. I finally got up thinking that maybe I had forgot to turn on my second alarm. I saw that I had only 20 mins before I had to get to class. So i started getting up and Laura, my roommate, asked why I was getting up so early. Then I realized it was 7:40, not 8:40, I didnt have to wake up for almost another hour. So i went back to sleep until my alarm went off for real.
I really dont like waiting up for fake alarms, and I dont know why I have started doing this. It is very frustrating.

Davis

There is one good thing about Downtown Davis being relativly barren-- the lack of cars makes it nice to bike around.

Things I've learned from reading the newspaper...

A man went into surgery to remove a possibly cancerous testicle and they removed the wrong one. Ouch.
