Oh, the Internet, what an entertaining place!
So being a product of hippie love from a hippie town I decided to pick some olives, look up recipes on the Internet and try to make my own olives. Right now I have about 10-20 olives soaking in hot water in an old applesauce jar in my bedroom. But I also heard about other food around campus and went looking around on DavisWiki.org. I’ve found some interesting things under my search for "Free Food"...
"Road tomatoes are free in the summer months. These are tomatoes that fall off the tomato trucks while in transport. Usually plentiful around on/off ramps. "
ew?
"Berries - Blackberries grow in many of the wilder areas around the edge of town. Probably other berries, too. The little strawberries you'll commonly see growing around downtown are decorative. They may or may not be poisonous, but regardless, they don't taste good and aren't worth picking"
Hey Bob, want me to pick some strawberries for you? I swear they are tasty!!
"Free Liquid Bread
See Free Beer"
Already found that thanks.
"The food science department often has free taste testings where they ask you deep and meaningful questions about the texture of a cookie."
For some reason the commentary in this sentence made me think of Sara.
"Walnut trees grow all over Davis. They look like golf ball sized green balls, not the walnuts you find in the store. This is the outer husk, which needs to be peeled off (and stains like crazy!). "
omg they stain?? really?? I didn’t know that.
Now I've found the page titled "Good Ideas For Dates" in Davis. Here are a few funny passages:
Try to catch a squirrel by the bike tunnel behind Davis Commons.
Go to the Arboretum and yell at people you see feeding the ducks.
Go to rummage sales and see who finds the most random object. You can find a list of rummage sales in The Davis Enterprise. If you're really cheap, go Dumpster Diving.
Great cheap date: On a Tuesday night, eat a $2 bowl of Tortilla Soup at El Mariachi, have a $1 scoop of ice cream and then go to a $4 movie. Later entertainment will surely be free ;)
And my personal Favorite
"Sneak onto an Amtrak train. Make love in the rest room while they collect tickets and then sit in the dining car and see how far you can go until they kick you off for not paying. "
This link is also entertaining... http://daviswiki.org/Makeout_Spots
And last but not least...
"Squirrel Fishing
A different sort of sport. It's playing around with the squirrels.
Take a fishing pole, or just a stick, and wrap some string, twine, whatever, around a couple of nuts. Not so tight it won't come off, but tight enough to hold a couple minutes. Let a squirrel grab the nut, and wrestle it back and forth. A squirrel shouldn't get hurt by this, the string is wrapped around the nut, and the goal of the game is to to lead the squirrel closer to you (gently) before letting him get the nut out. Squirrels can be really cute rolling around and wrestling, even if you're not trying to lead him anywhere. Just be fair, don't tease them and take the nuts outta their hands. It's harmless fun as long as you don't overfeed or be rough with a squirrel by accident."

I grew up in Walnut Creek. We had four or five walnut trees on our the property of our tract home that needed to be harvested once a year. I can still recall the sounds of the walnuts hitting the roof when the guys came through and shook them out of the trees. Sometimes I would take the walnut in it's green hull and write with it on the sidewalk. I don't think that made my parents very happy. I recall it being a dark brown stain...(um, probably walnut).

I think I'll stick to raspberries stuffed with slugs, thanks. As long as you don't look, they taste just like...
